Submission Guidelines

SUBMISSIONS VOL 3: Sept 26th - Oct 31st, 2021

Poetry Submissions
Please submit a .docx document with up to 3 poems, no longer than two pages each. Please note that, if accepted for publication, poems submitted in experimental format may have to be adjusted to fit our journal dimensions (21cm x 14cm).

Fiction/Non-Fiction Submissions
Please submit no more than 1 piece in a .docx document, no longer than 3000 words. Minimum 1000 words.

Photography/Visual Art Submissions
Please submit up to 3 high quality JPG images. All images will be printed in colour.

(Note that we welcome work outside of these categories, but please do not send more than 3 pieces).

If .docx is not an available format/not compatible with your device, pdf is a preferred alternative.

Please only submit to one category per issue. Do not include visuals with writing submissions. If you are submitting mixed media (ie: words/poem over a photo) please submit to the visual art category.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but do let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere. We do not accept previously published works, however, “previously published” does not include blog posts or social media posts.

We will not accept submissions sent before or after our designated submission period for each volume.

Anyone can submit, but we especially encourage BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and historically marginalized creators to submit. We recognize the literary world is dominated by cis white writers and we aim to amplify other voices.

Northern Otter Press will not tolerate any content that promotes or encourages racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, xenophobia, ableism, or any violent and discriminating content. Submissions that contain such hatred will be immediately rejected.

Publishing Rights
We hold the rights to publishing your work. The work, however, is still yours. We kindly ask for you to wait until your work is published with us before sharing elsewhere. If you do re-submit your work to other places, we ask for an acknowledgement of previous publication.

Unfortunately, we are unable to pay our contributors at this time, but it is a future goal of ours. In the meantime, each contributor will receive a copy of the volume they are published in.
